Manaslu Circuit Trek – Premium 15 days Adventure map

Trip Overview

At the moment, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is Nepal’s most authentic Himalayan trekking trail with only 160KM drive from the capital city Kathmandu. In recent years, the trek has become increasingly popular among trekkers looking beyond Nepal’s busier trails. The trek is still equally accessible via Gorkha even with Aug 2026 flooding of bridge over Trishuli River in Malekhu, 60km west of Kathmandu.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a challenging high altitude journey around Mount Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world at 8,163 m. It is known as one of the most authentic and less crowded alternatives to the Everest and Annapurna regions. The restricted area status of the region keeps the trail relatively much quieter and the culture well preserved.

The heart of the trek is the crossing of Larkya La Pass at 5,106 m, a true high altitude mountain challenge. This crossing links the remote Manaslu region to the Manang region near the Annapurna Circuit. The trek rewards you with a genuine sense of remoteness, culture, and high mountain adventure in a single journey.

  • Walk Through Traditional Himalayan Villages: Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Lho, Samagaon, and Samdo each reflect the mountain culture and architecture of the upper Manaslu region.

  • Visit Birendra Lake and Manaslu Base Camp: The acclimatization day at Samagaon includes a side hike toward Manaslu Base Camp at around 4,800 m, passing close to Birendra Lake near the Manaslu Glacier.

Welcome to Nepal. Once you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will meet you outside the arrival terminal with our company name and logo board and transfer you to your hotel in Kathmandu. • Altitude: 1,400 m

  • Accommodation: 3 star hotel

  • Meals: Welcome Dinner

  • Highlights: Arrival in Nepal, airport transfer, hotel check in, and trek briefing

After breakfast, you leave Kathmandu and drive west toward Machha Khola, passing through Soti Khola along the way. The road follows the Trishuli and Budhi Gandaki river valleys, climbing through hillside terraces and small towns as it leaves the Kathmandu valley and enters Gorkha district, the traditional gateway to the Manaslu region.

    • Route: Kathmandu to Machha Khola via Soti Khola by road

    • Altitude: 890 m

    • Accommodation: Mountain lodge

    • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

    • Highlights: Drive through Gorkha district, river valley scenery, first entry point of the Manaslu region

The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River upstream, crossing several suspension bridges and passing through small riverside settlements such as Khorlabesi and Tatopani. The valley narrows as you climb, and the trail rises gradually to Jagat, a village where your permits are checked before you continue into the restricted Manaslu area.

      • Accommodation: Mountain lodge

      • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

      • Highlights: Riverside trail, suspension bridge crossings, permit checkpoint at Jagat

The trail continues along the steep Budhi Gandaki gorge, climbing and descending through forest as the valley grows narrower and the mountains close in on either side. You pass through small settlements including Philim before reaching Deng, marking your entry deeper into the upper Nubri Valley.

        • Altitude: 1,860 m

        • Highlights: Steep gorge trail, forest sections, entry into the upper Nubri Valley

From Deng, the trail climbs steadily through forest and small villages, passing a Manaslu Conservation Area checkpoint before reaching Namrung. The culture and architecture along this stretch begin to show a stronger Tibetan Buddhist influence, with mani walls and prayer flags becoming more frequent.

          • Route: Deng to Namrung through the upper Budhi Gandaki valley

          • Altitude: 2,630 m

          • Highlights: Conservation area checkpoint, changing architecture and culture, forested trail

The trail climbs from Namrung toward Lho, and on clear days the first views of Manaslu appear along the route. Lho is home to a village monastery with a well known viewpoint over the mountain, and the trail is lined with mani walls and chortens as you approach the village.

            • Route: Namrung to Lho with rising views of Manaslu

            • Altitude: 3,180 m

            • Highlights: First views of Manaslu, village monastery at Lho, mani walls and chortens along the trail

A shorter trekking day brings you to Samagaon, the largest village in the Nubri Valley and the main acclimatization base before the higher sections of the trek. The village sits in an open valley with close views of the north face of Manaslu.

              • Route: Lho to Samagaon

              • Altitude: 3,530 m

              • Accommodation: Mountain lodge

              • Highlights: Arrival in Samagaon, close views of Manaslu's north face, traditional Nubri village life

Today is a full acclimatization day at Samagaon. After breakfast, you take a side hike toward Manaslu Base Camp, gaining altitude to help your body adjust before continuing higher on the main trail. The route passes close to Birendra Lake, a glacial lake fed by the Manaslu Glacier, before you return to Samagaon for the night.

                • Route: Samagaon to Manaslu Base Camp area and Birendra Lake, return to Samagaon

                • Highlights: Side hike toward Manaslu Base Camp, visit to Birendra Lake, acclimatization before higher altitude

The trail leaves Samagaon and continues north toward Samdo, the last significant village before the Tibet border. Trees give way to shrub and open grassland as the landscape becomes increasingly alpine and exposed.

                  • Route: Samagaon to Samdo

                  • Altitude: 3,875 m

                  • Accommodation: Mountain lodge

                  • Highlights: Open alpine landscape, views toward the Tibet border, traditional trading village atmosphere

From Samdo, the trail climbs into increasingly remote, high altitude terrain, following the Budhi Gandaki upstream toward Dharamsala, the last stop before Larkya La Pass. Accommodation here is basic, reflecting the isolated setting just below the pass.

                                Know Before You Book

                                • Visa Requirements: All citizens of the world except Indian passport holders need a visa to enter Nepal, and most travelers can get a Visa on Arrival. Since this trip runs close to two weeks, we recommend applying for a 30 day tourist visa for a comfortable buffer around your travel dates. The 30 day tourist visa fee is USD 50. You can apply and pay online in advance here: https://nepaliport-new.immigration.gov.np/

                                • Passport Validity: Please ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date, with at least one blank page for your visa stamp.

                                • Fitness Level: This is a challenging trek that reaches 5,106 m at Larkya La Pass. Trekkers should have a good level of fitness, and prior high altitude trekking experience is recommended, along with regular walking or hiking practice beforehand.

                                • Group and Permit Requirements: The Manaslu region is a government restricted area. Trekkers must travel with a licensed guide arranged through a registered trekking agency, and permits are generally issued for groups of at least two trekkers.

                                • Travel Insurance: Travel insurance covering medical emergencies, high altitude evacuation, and trip delays is strongly recommended for this trek.

                                • Currency and Payment Methods: We accept payments in major currencies such as USD, EUR, and GBP, though it is a good idea to carry some Nepali Rupees for smaller personal expenses on the trail.

                                Accommodations, Meals and Transportation

                                • Typical Accommodation Used: You will stay in a comfortable 3 star hotel in Kathmandu before and after the trek. During the trek, you will stay in mountain lodges and teahouses along the route, which offer simple rooms and dining halls where meals are served.

                                • Meals: Daily breakfast is included in Kathmandu, along with a welcome dinner on Day 1 and a farewell dinner on Day 14. During the trek, full board meals of breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included at every stop from Machha Khola through Dharapani.

                                • Guide Support: An experienced English speaking guide accompanies you throughout the trek, assisting with permits, acclimatization, trail navigation, and the crossing of Larkya La Pass. Porters are also provided to carry your duffle bag.

                                • Transportation: This package includes private airport transfers in Kathmandu, ground transportation between Kathmandu and Machha Khola, and ground transportation between Dharapani and Kathmandu via Besisahar. All movement between villages on the trek is done on foot.

                                Seasonal and Weather Updates

                                • Autumn (September to November): This is one of the most popular seasons for the Manaslu Circuit, with generally stable weather and clear mountain views, though nights at higher altitude are cold.

                                • Spring (March to May): Spring offers milder temperatures at lower elevations and blooming rhododendron forests along the lower trail, with generally good conditions for the pass crossing later in the season.

                                Health and Safety

                                • General Wellbeing: This trek reaches significant altitude at Larkya La Pass. Trekkers should be aware of the signs of altitude sickness and communicate any symptoms to their guide promptly.

                                • Healthcare Facilities: Basic health posts are available in some larger villages such as Samagaon, and full hospital facilities are available in Kathmandu. Your guide can assist with local arrangements if required.

                                • Pacing: Walking at a comfortable pace and allowing sufficient rest, particularly around Samagaon, can help your body adjust to the increasing elevation before the pass crossing.

                                • Hydration: Drink sufficient fluids throughout the trekking days, especially at higher altitude.

                                • Weather Awareness: Weather can affect trail conditions, particularly around Larkya La Pass. Follow the instructions of your guide at all times.

                                • Travel Advisories: Before you travel, we recommend checking the latest travel advice issued by your home country. Our team is happy to provide local updates before your trip.

                                • Remote Terrain: The Manaslu region is more remote than many other trekking areas in Nepal, with fewer facilities such as shops, ATMs, and communication networks along the trail. Plan accordingly and carry sufficient cash for the trekking portion of your trip.

                                • Responsible Travel: We encourage you to respect local customs, ask permission before photographing monks and local families, and support the local economy of the Nubri Valley during your trek.

                                • What is the highest point of the Manaslu Circuit Trek?

The highest point is Larkya La Pass at 5,106 m, crossed on Day 11 of this itinerary.

                                • Prior high altitude trekking experience is recommended given the altitude reached at Larkya La Pass, along with a good level of general fitness.

                                • Yes. The Manaslu region is a restricted area, and trekkers need a Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, a Manaslu Conservation Area Permit, and an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit for the section of the route beyond the pass.

                                • Restricted area regulations require trekkers to travel with a licensed guide through a registered trekking agency, and permits are generally issued for groups of at least two trekkers.

                                • This package includes one duffle bag, one pair of trekking poles, and one sleeping bag per person, in addition to full board meals and lodge accommodation during the trek.
