Rolwaling Valley Trek is a Himalayan trekking route that lies between the Everest and Langtang Himalaya ranges, in Dolakha district within the Gaurishankar Conservation Area, close to the southern border of Tibet. The valley lies below Mount Gaurishankar (7,134m) and is home to a small population of Sherpa and Tibetan people who live in villages like Beding and Na, following Buddhist traditions and a simple mountain lifestyle that has changed little over time. The trail also passes Tsho Rolpa, a large glacial lake and one of the main highlights of this trek, along with close views of peaks such as Melungtse, Chobutse, and Yalung Ri. This makes Rolwaling a peaceful and less crowded alternative to the busier Everest and Annapurna trails.
The Rolwaling trek with Tashi Lapcha Pass is known as one of the hardest passes in the Everest region. It connects the Rolwaling Valley to the Khumbu region near Thame. The pass is at 5,755m and needs good physical fitness, proper acclimatization, and a licensed guide, since parts of the trail cross glaciers and use fixed ropes. The best time to do this trek is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is stable and mountain views are clear. You will need a Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit, and if you cross Tashi Lapcha Pass into the Khumbu side, a restricted area permit is also required. Thamel Travels and Tours offers both the Rolwaling Valley Trek - 10 Days and the Rolwaling Trek with Tashi Lapcha Pass - 15 Days.
